2025
Already one of the premier gravel events in the Americas, Rebecca’s Private Idaho (RPI) is now an official stop on the Gravel Earth Series–a collection of races across the planet that will kickoff in Spain on February 15th, 2025 (yikes! That’s four weeks away!). 25 races supported by UCI and the International Cycling Federation will lead competitors to Italy, Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Costa Rica, Kenya, Switzerland, Iceland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Chile and IDAHO (among other US states).
€37,500 will be shared among the top 10 finishers in each of the three categories: male, female, and non-binary, with €2,500 to the winner of each category. That’s $38,627.54 and $2,575.17 US dollars by today’s exchange rate. However, Gravel Earth wants you to know that even if you’re not in the hunt for the podium and a stack of euros, these are some really amazing landscapes and destinations to experience. Gravelling in Latvia? Kenya? Finland? Heck yeah. Collect them all!
Looking back, looking forward
Even the all powerful, all good Bike Monkey is not immune to Mother Nature. Wildfires raging in the west* put the kibosh on the first day of RPI last year, but the smoke had cleared enough to allow the other two days to proceed in fine fashion, the stunning landscapes surrounding Ketchum, Idaho revealing themselves after a short hiatus.
RPI 2025 is on course to be another fantastic event in support of Rebecca Rusch’s Be Good Foundation. In support of new riders via Be Good Scholarships. In support of the sport of gravel racing/riding and the community it engenders. Like 2024, you’ll be able to select stages from the a la carte menu, or go all in for the Queen’s Stage Race–three days of racing for the podium. Or a personal best. Or just cause it’s rad.
2025’s Queen’s Stage Race will see a new format–a more stage-race-oriented plan for scoring where results will be based solely on time, rather than points. Additionally, time bonuses will be awarded for placing in the top three positions which will make for an exciting battle for the podium.
What won’t change in 2025 is the camaraderie and near levitative state that the combo of community, mountain streams, and pedaling provides. But remember, Ketchum is small, and while it seems like an eternity til the end of August, might as well get signed up and book your room today before life happens and it’s suddenly the middle of summer and you have nowhere to stay.
Once again, the Limelight Hotel will be our host and RPI Mothership for the event. Other recommended lodging options include Alpine Lodging, Tamarack Lodge, and Hotel Ketchum. Check them out here, and remember to sign up early and often as these RPI specially discounted rooms will go fast!
We can’t wait to see you in the Idaho mountains in August!
*As we write this, the Los Angeles area is experiencing devastating wildfires. Friends, family and people we’ve never met and never will are very much in our thoughts.
