Air Quality Update
AUG 29 - SEPT 1
2024
We are monitoring air quality ahead of stage 1.

Don't forget to join our mandatory rider meeting this afternoon at 4PM at Limelight Hotel.

This meeting will also be streamed on Instagram Live.

Air Quality Update | Air Quality Policy

Dear RPI competitors,

We are currently monitoring air quality in the area that is being impacted by the Wapati Fire to the north of Sun Valley that has been threatening the communities of, and surrounding Stanley, Idaho. As of this morning, smoke from this fire has made its way south, and is reducing our air quality. However a front is expected to be moving in later this afternoon, and should start to blow smoke out of the area in time for stage 1 tomorrow morning.

Presently, the AQI is not favorable for pre-riding the Harriman Trail, and we advise against doing so.

We expect the AQI tomorrow morning to be favorable for race conditions even though it is not right now. At this time, we are planning to move forward with stage 1.

We closely monitor fires and wind conditions in our area. We won’t know if air quality is either safe or potentially hazardous in our area until just before each day’s events. Please stay tuned to our Instagram channel for any changes. The safety of our participants, staff, partners and volunteers is our number one priority.

Please be sure to read our rider guide where we also have this policy posted, and other important information about tomorrow's stage.

Here are some resources so you can keep an eye on this evolving situation:

We’re using this air quality guide as our standard, which details the risks of pollution levels for both healthy and sensitive individuals.

An AQI sustained at 150 or over 175 on any given morning would make physical activity unsafe for our participants. In that case, the riding events for the day would be canceled. Other non-riding events, such as our Welcome Expo, our RPI Festival and the Be Good™ Foundation party, will proceed as planned.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
The cast and crew at RPI
